Cheng Style Baguazhang

Baguazhang is very circular in nature. It is considered a very advanced style of Kung Fu with its complex use of geometry and physics. We break it down in a cohesive manner so that all students are able to learn and be successful with it. If you are thinking of a style that is more “Kung Fu like”, then this is the style you will likely be most interested in. Beginners are welcome in our Level 1 class.

Traditional Baguazhang is very difficult to find in the United States. There are other schools who have learned bits and pieces from books or videos and teach to the best of their understanding. Learning that way only give 50% understanding at best, and the best parts of the art that make it effective are in the last 10%. Sifu Aaron searched the globe for the highest level Baguazhang master he could find from a highly respected traditional lineage. Who he found was Sifu Li Chunling (pictured above), top disciple of the legendary Sun Zhijun. Her attention to detail is astounding and as her disciple, Sifu Aaron has learned the true transmission of Cheng Style Baguazhang. We teach the entire system of Cheng Style Baguazhang.

Places where Baguazhang can be found in television and movies are “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” (Airbending), “The Grandmaster”, “Tai Chi Hero”, “The One”, “Pride’s Deadly Fury”, and others.

Chen Style Taijiquan (Tai Chi)

Most people know Tai Chi as people moving slowly in the park for health reasons. This is good Tai Chi, but was modified to take the fighting side out of it. The original style of Tai Chi is Chen Style. It was created in the 1600s by a retired military general (Chen Wanting) as a combat style. Chen Style Tai Chi retains all of the combat application and is a style of Kung Fu.

While Yang Style Tai Chi instruction can be found in most larger cities across the United States, Chen Style is much more difficult to find. Due to the age of the style, lineages can be many generations deep. With that being the case, many teachers have made changes to the style to suite their perspective. In the Kung Fu world this is typically looked down upon, as any change made by a single person to a system that has developed over hundreds of years only dilutes the movements and takes away from the true nature of the style. It can lead to injury. Knowing that, Sifu Aaron searched the world for the highest level Chen Tai Chi master that he could find to study under. He is a student of Sifu Chen Bing (pictured above). Chen Tai Chi started in Chen Village in China. Chen Bing is one of the greatest masters of his generation from the Chen Family, grew up in Chen Village, and runs the Chen Tai Chi academy in Chen Village. Sifu Aaron chose Chen Bing to study under so that he could better understand the subtleties and applications of Chen Tai Chi, as well as correct posture and movement. The true art is in the detail, and the only way to learn the details is through a legitimate master. We teach traditional Chen Tai Chi as it is still taught in Chen Village today.

Chen Tai Chi has been featured in many movies and is typically the “secret weapon” learned to beat an unstoppable foe. Its best representation can be found in the movies “Tai Chi Zero”, and “Tai Chi Hero”, among many others. In the television series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” it is featured as Waterbending.
